On Sunday, Sri Lanka secured a historic 2-0 series whitewash against New Zealand in Galle, marking their third consecutive Test victory. This emphatic win, by an innings and 154 runs on the fourth day of the second Test, not only mirrored Sri Lanka’s 2009 success at home but also bolstered their chances of qualifying for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord’s in June next year. Sri Lanka’s triumph has also left India in a challenging position, as rain washed out days 2 and 3 of their second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur.
With this victory, Sri Lanka jumped to third place on the WTC points table with a PCT of 55.56. India remains at the top with a PCT of 71.67 after securing seven wins in 10 matches, including a victory in the first Test against Bangladesh last week. Australia holds the second spot with a PCT of 62.50.
